    Hi there All

I wish I could overclock my PC.

    Never overclocked before.

    System spec's are as follows.

    Processor : Intel x5460 mod 771
    Motherboard : gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3LR
    Ram : kingston 12gb (3x 4gb) 1333mhz ddr3
    GPU: zotac 960amp Edition 2gb ddr5
Heatsink: cooler master 120v plus LIQUID COOLER

Please tell me step by step process.

    Any help appreciated.

    Many Thanks !

    Re: Xeon x5460 overclocking settings

Is CPU recognized properly by the BIOS?
All settings from optimized defaults, and is it tested to be stable (Memtest86/Memtest86+/OCCT/Prime95/Other)?
Did you need to make any changes in BIOS for 3x4GB memory?
    All memory sticks are identical?
Please post screen captures of CPU-Z CPU, Motherboard, Memory and SPD tabs.
You can run multiple instances of CPU-Z and capture them all at once.

      Thanks for Reply,

i haven't made any changes for ram and all rams are identical 3x4gb ddr3 1333mhz kingston.
and sorry i don't know anything about (Memtest86/Memtest86+/OCCT/Prime95)
but my system is working very much fine .. like to oc my xeon5460 for gaming.

        Re: Xeon x5460 overclocking settings

OK lets jump to troubled water right away
Do the following changes in M.I.T
        Code:
        MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
        CPU Clock Ratio ---------------- : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]8[/COLOR]]
        Fine CPU Clock Ratio ----------- : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]0.0[/COLOR]]

        CPU Host Frequency (Mhz) ------- : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]400[/COLOR]]

        DRAM Performance Control
        Performance Enhance ------------ : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]Standard[/COLOR]]
Extreme Memory Profile - (XMP) - : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]Disabled[/COLOR]] (ignore if not esists)
        System Memory Multiplier ------- : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]3.33[B]D[/B][/COLOR]]

Advanced Clock Control ------- [Press Enter]
        Channel A&B Timing Settings -- {Press Enter to change settings}
Static tRead Value ------------- : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]9 or 10[/COLOR]] (will lower later)

        Motherboard Voltage Control
        CPU
Voltage Types--------- Normal ----- Current -----
        Load-Line Calibration ---------- : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]Enabled[/COLOR]]
        CPU Vcore ----------- 1.????? -- : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]1.265[/COLOR]]
        CPU Termination ----- 1.200V* -- : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]1.2[/COLOR]]
CPU PLL ------------- 1.500V* -- : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]1.5[/COLOR]] (may need to be 1 tick higher for higher OC)

        MCH/ICH
        MCH Core ------------- 1.100V -- : [[COLOR="#FF0000"]1.16[/COLOR]] (increase up to 1.24 if needed)
Try with Fine CPU Clock Ratio 0.5 if it boots ok, this should get it to 3.4GHz.
If you encounter boot loop you may need to clear CMOS.

OCCT is not a must but it won't be a bad idea to run it at least for an hour, with medium data set.
It is a stress test that may help find instabilities that otherwise will take longer to find.
Of course watch core temps and stop the test is the exceed 70c

Please post also screen caprure of MemSet main window.

          My Dear

          Very Thanks for Suggestions

I tried your settings more than 40 times going and coming out of bios ... but nu success..

things change but in CPUz bus speed always remain same 333
clock speed , voltages and other things change... but not bus speed

          attaching CPUz screens

Yeah not many DDR3 boards at that time, most used DDR2
The timings are more interesting and looks ok.

I think the +/- keys on numpad or you can simply type the number (num lock on)

                  Re: Xeon x5460 overclocking settings

No No its not like that it can be changed in motherboard easily with +/- keys or with numeric keys also ... but after rebooting when i check it with CPUz it remain same 333mhz...
in CPUz its not changing ....

core speed , bus speed , and rated FSB in CPUz never changes after changing it in bios of motherboard....

                  Thanks

                    Re: Xeon x5460 overclocking settings

Do you mean you change it to 400 in BIOS but it don't change?
And in IOS it is still 400?

                        Re: Xeon x5460 overclocking settings

And what does post message show?
Does computer boot at once after you save or it boot few times (boot loops) and then boot.
                        No failed overclock message?

                        Maybe clearing CMOS will help.
Disconnect the power or turn of the PSU, press power button to drain capacitors, take the battery out, short the CLR_CMOS pins and leave the short on for 10-15 minutes.
Try again, start with loading Optimized defaults, and then do the changes.
You can also try to set PCI Express Frequency to 100 or 101
