  • Another Dual Monitor Q

I have a Gainward Geforce4 Ti4200 with tv out and NO DVI. I want to run dual monitors and I have searched everywhere for an answer. So far I've come to the conclusion that because I only have ONE analog connector, I have to get this thing called "Y-see two" http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...p?sku=P55-1012 . Is there another way for me to use my nView? I really don't want to spend and extra 60 dollars to use my extra monitor.

I'm not even sure that will work the way you want. :?:

The only way that you can use nView that I know of is with a TV as two monitor outputs are required for two monitors. : peace2:

As far as I know, the s-video will not convert properly to a monitor signal. It is very strange that your card didn't come with the three outputs, as most Geforce cards have been doing so since the Geforce3 range.

As for the Y cable, I'm with Wiggo on that one. It looks, to me, like it simply duplicates the signal on each output. So you've basically be mirroring the output on two screens. Unless done so by the manufacturer, you won't be able to get two different outputs on the one connection. It just can't send two different signals from the one place.

This is just depressing now...I don't want to go and buy another card. Should I just go the PCI & AGP video card route? I have a 3dfx voodoo 3 pci somewhere. How does this affect gameplay of an FPS such as Counter-Strike? Will I be using both monitors while playing?

That would not be a good idea in a gaming situation afraid. :(

If ya only use the main monitor for gaming then ya'll be ok. :)

What exactly do you want dual monitors for?

im a multi tasking freak...but the main reason is that I have an extra 18" monitor and it seems like a waste. I also wouldn't mind have more room on my desktop. If i HAVE the ability to use two monitors, why not do it?

if that's all you want, then go ahead and just get a cheap PCI video card. Doesn't need to be anything special. Probably doesn't even need 3D. I'd just give up on the idea of playing games on 2 screens. it's a nice idea, but it doesn't work that well in reality...
