  • X5470 on GA-EP45-UD3R - overclocking help

Just trying to breath some new life into an older PC which is used as a second computer.

I am trying to overclock an Intel Xeon X5470 on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R

I would like to achieve a 4GHZ overclock, or if not possible the highest stable overclock under 4GHZ. At the moment I have a 3.6GHZ clock.

My RAM is quite slow as I have Crucial DDR2 CT2KIT51264AA667 667 MHz ( PC2-5300 ) 1.8 V. I have 16GB of this RAM (4 modules), as that is the largest DDR2 RAM I could find in 4GB modules. Problem is it is not so fast, but I need 16GB RAM for video editing.

Could anyone suggest some Bios settings that may work for an overclock? Even if I could not get 4GHZ, any improvement would be welcome.

Here are my Bio Settings. Please let me know if anything should be changed:

    re: X5470 on GA-EP45-UD3R - overclocking help

    Welcome to the forum.

From your posted bios settings, it looks like you did not load the Optimized bios defaults before changing any bios settings.

With LLC (load line calibration) enabled, CPU Vcore = 1.35000V is probably too high.

Check out Socket 771 Mod Xeon X5460 GA-P35-DS3L Overclock
About half way through the thread, Luke switched to an EP45-UD3P motherboard from his P35-DS3L.

Using all AUTO voltage settings can result in several bios settings that are too high when overclocking, especially CPU PLL.

You'll see that I "trained" Luke to provide detailed screen-shots and to frequently post updated bios templates while he was overclocking.
Include the advanced ET6 (Easy Tune 6) advanced voltage settings information to ensure that the applied voltages are within reason.

Within two more weeks the number of people who viewed his thread will pass the 250,000 mark.
