  • Those annoying menu extenders

Sorry, I'm not sure what to call these things so I didn't find much by searching for help on them.

I'm using Windows 2000 Pro and I really hate those little arrows that appear in your start menu that hide applications you don't use very often. I just want my menues to open up in all their extended glory. Any way I can turn the auto-hide option off? And is it universal, ie will it turn them off in Microsoft Word as well?

    Thanks,
    Rob

They're called "personalized menus". To turn them off right-click on your taskbar (somewhere blank) and select Properties. Then untick "Use Personalized Menus".

To turn them off/on in Word, Excel, etc. example right-click on your icon bar and select "customize">Options>untick "Menus show recently used commands first".

you can also disable them for all users on your machine by messing around with the group policy editor. [GPEDIT.MSC]
