Ok guys and gals, need some thought proccesseing goin on K?

I'll try to give ya the short version first.:hammer: Personaly
I don't have a clue on what things are called, ok people,
And don't you dare laugh at me cause I don't know how
to talk computer guts K! lol you'll see.

Well at the moment I can't tell ya much what I have in my Pc, Later I can. I know its got a NEW pentium mother board,
    and NVIDIA Gefforce2 MX 100/200,
    IBM 6546 monitor.
    Compaq DVD-ROM sd-612B
    IDE-CD Rewritable-2x2x6 <-------Not working ATM
We are on dial up and running Windows 98 main programs used
are paint shop pro and 1st page html editer.

Well things were pretty much ok till this last summer,
He baught and installed the new DVD player, and mother board, and the geforce thing. well pretty much the same time the writer stopped working. Heck we probably used it the prior weekend, thats when I started learning how to download music. The DVD player didn't work at first, ya know, choppy. And right away the Cd writer stopped working we tried switching them around but nothing worked. When you try to use a writing program, it either freezes up, or the whole thing does, every time. We had the writer looked at, and seemed fine.
I came up with the britest idea I ever came up with. I said " lets go find a message board or something online and just ask someone what to do", Well as luck would have it.. he he lol thats how we found TWEAKTOWN, my new home that is nside my computer <---- ( is it ER or OR? )

Well its now, and it still doesnt work and it seems that my pc is going down hill. It freezes up very frequently, or gets seriously bogged down like something is sucking the life out of it.
And on the 3rd this mo, I was online here at TT, and I got off for a little while. When I went to get back on, the most it would do is get to 410 bps, thats it. I was wanting to somehow get to TweakTown soas to post an Inportant post regarding, before anything else went wrong, or before reformating. We didn't make it. The redit got messed up, and we booted up with CD Rom support., Well needless to say... POOH
My stuff didn't get totaly wiped oout, but it didn't get totaly fixed either, just the getting back online thing Yesturday my pc froze several times, and/or bogged way down
( hey if you found my very first post, I said the very same thing, way wow) well anyway, someone asked my why I hadn't posted about it yet, well, here it is. And I even took some screen shots of what i thought you might need to know, and/ or would ahve asked me. I will post them next. Any idea on what? and what do we do now? I have an idea I will share at another time.
Hey can anybody help a Twizl out?

Those DLL's you show are closely tied (as in, a definite part of) Internet Explorer.
2 possibilities there - 1 being to repair Internet Explorer, or better yet upgrade to IE6 SP1 if you haven't yet. The other would be to use the tool you took a screenshot of to replace those older versions with the newer ones.

As far as sluggish/slow let's look into the basics.
Best bet, get all your drivers, software and internet settings together and format and clean install.

if you aren't quite ready for that leap - yeah, it's scary the first time, but only the first time.

immediately after you start the system and Windows is all up 'n' ready to go, do a Ctrl + Alt + Del. How much stuff is listed in the "Close Programs" dialouge box?
Anything you don't need? Find out where to shut it down, Google is as good a tool as any to determine what some of those entries are that you aren't sure of.
How much RAM do you have in that PC?
How much free space on the hard drive?
Is Windows managing the Virtual Memory?

When you press the Windows key + Pause, in the device manager are there any components with yellow or red markings?

I got plenty more questions, but let's start there.

I'm going to put the burner and DVD on hold for now, no point in tackling that until the system is running smoothly.

Your first paragraph, I understand this very well!, I did have the explorer repair, until then, And the dll, when I saw them there, big red light bulb went off in my head. I know about the things things you do to maintaim and up keep the pc. I read what you said, and realized that I've slacked off to the point of forgetting to up keep my pc. I have been thru this before, but didn't have any help and had to figure things out on my own, but still not really knowing. Thats how I started , I didn't like it messin up, so I figured out how to at least keep it up, the inportant stuff anyway. For awhile there, I did such a good job that everytime I defraged, it was smooth and darn near perfectly in tacked. Nothin outa place, that was about two years ago, right at the begining.

And I'm not ganna format unntil I get alot of stuff off of here., if the writer wont work, then I';ll try to network with a friends pc,

anHow much RAM do you have in that PC?<-- more next week

How much free space on the hard drive?
        <-- C 9.30 gb
        50 % of each
        <---- D 1.9 gb

Is Windows managing the Virtual Memory? can tell ya that a little later.

device manager, I don't know how 'you' do it, but everythings fine in there

So what are we talkin to smooth things out, I mean, whats the qwik temp fix, how do I correct the conflict? DLL's
I actually know a little using the device maneger.Or I should say I have before. I also had a book then too

somethings you may want to consider:

          * have you done a ScanDisk to repair/remove any bad sectors on your hard disk? if no, why not?! :D

          * with all the gubbins that you are running now, is there physical space in your box to stop the system from overheating?

          * defrag by all means but the scandisk is more helpful here I think

          * in the device manager (I think from 98 - trying to remember here) you can update the driver(s) using a wizard... clik the box and follow.... this is the (simple) way I update or repair drivers to devices

          * have you also tried a windows update? might solve your explorer problem?

          * we had loads of problems with 98 so downgraded to 95 and then eventually (when we could afford it) upgraded to XP....

          hope this helps?

Like it says in the dialouge in your screenshot - select them, click the button.

can it be something like a short or something like that?, Do you think that this bout of dranage could have come from that bad thing I had? what about a bigger fan,

One thing I havent done regulary like I used to is system file check. I used to be on top of that!! and fixed whatever right away!!

well that can be a valid reason but i feel that since you started having this problem after you added DVD drive, may be its something to do with power supply :?:
i m no hardware guy but i feel that either heat, power or memory (RAM) is one of the issues here!
Mr. C or Wiggo who are better at hardware might be able to look into this problem in better ways, but thats my opinion.

ok here is a new question

When we reloaded win, it saved some files in 'windows.000' but some are hard to find, such as in Find FIle (I LOVE FIND FILE) And I'm wandering how to go about finding them, as to either save them, delete them, and Uninstall them. I know that some are still installed cause I can still use them, but they arent in the add and remove programs, and some I can't use cause of a missing startup exe or dll or something in that line. Maybe I can relieve some pressure by locating and getting rid of what I really don't need right now.

And I am ganna get another fan hooked up, and hopefully more RAM TODAY!!

Let's talk basics on the possibility of a heat issue, OK.
Have you opened it up, and gotten all the dustbunnies out?
                              Are all the fans running?
Have you cleaned those fans? A lot of difference in the amount of air moved by a clean fan blade vs. a dirty fan blade.

How many Watts is the power supply I wonder?
The reason a diamond shines so brightly is because it has many facets which reflect light.
