I was looking into getting an AMD XP cpu but i was wandering which one would be better the 2700 or the 2500 Baron, say i was going to overclock it a bit but not tooooooo much. Also what other good / better motherboards are there then the Asus A7N8X Deluxe nforce2-ST thanks

I am using the 2500+ Barton and its great for overclock...i see both as good overclockers as Wiggo get good numbers with his 2600+. For the price/ performance ratio i will go for the 2500+(2500+=175 US vs. 2700+=255US big difference). For me the 2500+ is cheaper gives you all that cache and is just as good in O/Cing.
I have used the 2600+ but never overclocked it...the 2500+ i have used and i have overcloked but nothing out of this world yet...no time to tweak and play with it.- Damien

No I think he was askin' "Should I go for the faster one with less L2 cache or the slower one with more L2 cache?". I can't answer it as the only Barton cores available here are the 2800+ and 3000+ though I wouldn't mind comparin' a 2500+ against my 2600+. But a BIOS update maybe needed to run the Barton though.

ok well for 2 days my local computer store is having a surprise sale so much for a surprise any way i can get a AMD-RETAIL ATHLON XP BARTON 2500+ 1833MHZ CPU SOCKET A (333MHZ FSB) $255.00 or or or a AMD-RETAIL ATHLON XP 2700+ 2167MHZ CPU SOCKET A (333MHZ FSB) $335.00 both prices are in Canadien dollars. ok so which one should i go for??? im stumped i have seen benchmaks that have the 2500 do just as well as the 2800 when its overclocked a bit and then i have seen benchmaks of the 2700 beating the 2800 with bearly any overclock so which one should i go for... have to make decision quickly as sale will run out HELP :bounce:

Forget the Volcano 7 and Volcano 9 as these are bi-metal HSF's and get the full copper Volcano 7+ or if ya into jet engine noise the Volcano 11.
