Reading a recent book, I came across the following statements:
"Slot type connections use a single slot mounting on the motherboard that mounts the procesor in the same manner used for memory modules or expansion cards." (A+ Cert for Dummies - Ron Gilster)

So I'm picturing my Athlon XP 2000+ (which I believe is a "slot" type microprocessor) being placed in my mobo like an expansion card... only, that's not how it looked when I put it together!

    Can somebody please explain? :scream:

slot processors haven't been around for a while now...they look like a bulky expansion card with a large heatsink and a fan

your 2000+ is a socket processor...meaning the cpu fits into a a socket with lots of little pin holes (thus the name)

there is slot 1, slot 2, slot a.

    there are socket, 3, 5,7, a, 370, 423, 478, 603 and 604. This 'q' that u speak of is quite mystirious.

Thanks for the info. I just thought I remembered reading that my processor was a slot A type. Oh well...

BTW, the "q" was actually a joke.
