Ok I'm getting a new socket A motherboard (nForce2, prolly an Asus or Abit mobo), 512 Mb PC3200 RAM, and an ATX case with about 5 case fans (might be just 3). The only problem is I have no idea what processor to get. I'm really leaning towards the Athlon XP 2500+ with the Barton core because I hear it's easy to overclock, but I have some friends that think otherwise. I am soo confused on what to get!!! My friend says you can only overclock it 400 MGz. Is that good or bad?? If someone could reccommend a good quality board under $100 that overclocks good and has the nForce 2 chipset and 5-6 PCI slots as well as 8x AGP, and an Athlon XP CPU under $100 also that overclocks well, please tell me!? :?: I've talked with many, many different people, and almost everyone of them has contradicting thoughs and opinions about what motherboards are good or not and what overclocks good and what doesn't... it's so frustrating :grr: Please help me!!!!! I'm at my breaking point...

Goodness knows what "400 MGz" is but I've used EPoX 8RDA+'s for a while now and have 2 myself, one with an XP1800+ @ 2.09GHz (T'bred B) and one with an XP2600+ @ 2.26GHz.

I meant that my friend thinks you could only overclock it and add 400 MGz to it's current 1.83 MGz. And I think I've found my mobo! The Asus A7N8X-X for $83 at newegg.com (thanks for that link by the way, whoever gave it to me... that site rocks). I heard it's "award winning".

    My bad...

So how much can you overclock an Athlon XP 2500+ w/ Barton core? My setup will have the Asus A7N8X-X motherboard, 512 Mb PC-3200 DDR RAM (400 MHz) and good cooling... 2 cooling fans in the front & back and one right on the side.

Never used the 2500+ my self, and it does depend on that specific processor, no 2 will OC the same, but IMO you could get a better result then a T-Bred. The bartons can achieve a higher rating with a lower clock speed because of the extra L2 cache. IMO its like OCing a 2200+. In theory, it should run as cool as the 2200+, since they are more or less the same clock speed. Im not sure whether or not the extra cache will pump out more heat or not.

I know a couple of people who have clocked 2500+ up to 3200+, you just need the "newer" processors that have the visible track marks on the top (the ones that are hard to bridge mod). They achieved that overclock in shuttle nforce2 systems!
