I have noticed on cpu compatability lists for some mobo's, that the highest cpu says xp2600/266fsb as the largest cpu compatable. Does this exist? Everywhere I have looked, says 333fsb for xp2500+ and xp2600+. I know about the 2500+ being a 333 barton, but what about this elusive 2600/266? I could only find reference to 266fsb with xp1700-2400+.

One thing to know is that the barton core is only a T-Bred B with 512k cache (T-bred has 256k)

Yes this processor exists, t-Bred B processors goes up to 2600+ i think, and barton start from somewhere like 2400+ and goes up to 3200+.

I dont thing this matter if you have a motherboard with only 266 mhz fsb, higher processors will work, just at lower frequency, if you know overclocking you can adjust the processor to run a lower fsb and higher multiplier to get the same frequency... if it is unlocked.

Correct me if im wrong guys!

When the XP2600+ was first released it came as a 266MHz FSB unit but soon after was changed over to a 333MHz product.

I have only found one place that has had these in the past.
Doesn't seem like they made too many of them.

Ok then. The Thoroughbred B comes in XP2700+/2600+/2400+/etc... down to bottom. The Barton is XP2500+/2800+/3000+/3200+.

It's important to keep in mind that AMD names their CPUs based on their relative performance rather than their relative clock speed. For example....the 2400 runs at 2GHz and the 2500 runs at 1.83GHz but the 2500 tends to outperform the 2400 due to the higher FSB and larger cache. A T-bred 2600 outperforms a 2500 by running at an even higher clock speed than the 2400.

They also price their CPUs accordingly but I would personally rather have a less expensive 2500 than a T-bred 2600 due to the overclocking potential and it's ability to run with faster RAM.

It pays to do some research prior to buying stuff.

From what I have read the 512 2ndary cash on the Barton 2500+ doesn't make a lick of difference and isn't really utilized right now.

I just got my case today (finally the black and gold one!). The one in my sig. I am currently in the process of putting it together.
I am really edfited to get to start OCing it to see how far I can go.
I also have a 2400+ that OC's pretty good, although my econo ram is holding it back.
After I get both systems up and running I will post the OC's and the difference between the 2.
I also plan on picking up some better ram (Overclockable) to see how they compair.
From what I have read though, the L2 cache on the Barton doesn't help it at all at the crrent moment.

Well my Barton shows measureable performance gains over similarly clocked T-breds.....It really depends on what you are doing with the CPU...what the applications demand.

Anyway, someone is giving me a mobo that can have 200 or 266 fsb. Since the board is free, and the manual says max xp2600/266fsb, I would like to find one instead of using a xp2400. If anyone has a Canadian link to one, please post it here. Thats why I asked. If not, I will be using a xp2400.
