hello everybody! i need some help with my comp. im currently own 5 comp and one of them are exhibiting a pontentially dangerous situation. It is:

    i) EPOX 8K3A+ DDR 333 Motherboard
    ii) AMD Athlon XP 1800+
    iii) 256MB DDR SDRAM PC2100 266Mhz
    iv) MS WIN XP PRO
    v) On board Ac97 sound
vi) nvidia geforce 4 mx 420 64mb sdram
    vi) 500w power supply

the question is that my processor runs very hot at times, even when it is idle. for example, it runs at 65 degrees after win xp boot. and i ocassionally experience sudden restarts when i play game (especially gta:vc) so, i disassamble my comp (even pulled the bios battery out for some time and put it in again), and reassamble it back. but it still exhibits the same prob. furthermore, my hd behaves like an abnormal one. once, i was typing in ms word and it suddenly freezes and when i ran scandisk, it says something like "index error" and stuff. this goes on for a long time. ive overclocked my cpu once and i deoverclock it back. and bout my harddisk, when i transfer it to my other comp which is:

    i) AMD K6 266MHz MMX
    ii) 160MB of PC100 SDRAM
    iii) WinXP Pro
    iv) ess maestro1 wdm sound
    v) s3 virge 2mb graphic
    vi) 250w psu

and the harddisk ran fine without any occassional errors. could anyone help me with this.

It can be that your HSF sucks, You adjusted something in the bios, your ram is bad, or your thermal grease is gone. Your thermal grease probably need to be changed. Just my :2cents:

Not sure about the rest of your system but you aren't going to get any kind of performance running WindowsXP on a system with only 160MB RAM.

Yes you can, turn off the visuals and it looks the same as 2k.

My old comp ran it without a hitch with 128mb PC100 (with all the visuals on actually).

I would recommend taking off the Heatsink and redoing the application of thermal compound. Arctic Silver is recommended to lower temps a bit.

Also test to make sure it is making proper contact before you finalize it and secure it.

Just replace your processor heatsink and fan, with a Volcano 7+ ... It will solve your probs...
