I am looking to get a 2.8ghz p4c CPU...but I was just wondering...is there a real big difference between the 3.0c and the 2.8c?? Other than the extra 200mhz?

no not really... they are gonna be the same with a different multiplier. they both have the same temperature threshold @70C. If you are interested in overclocking at all, then you should consider a 2.6c or a 2.4c as they both have a higher threshold @75C. Plus you can get them clocked pretty high. It's very common to get +25% out of either CPU. I don't think the the 2.8 and 3.0 will get you that high a precentage of overclock.

2.4 and 2.6 are the best buys right now because they have a lower multiplier and are cheaper.

They will have a higher FSB speed and will be faster at the same clock rate.

    For example, my CPU:

    P4 3.0 1000
    vs
    P4 3.0 800

Mine wins over the stock 3.0 :thumb:.

Wow..I didnt even think of buying the lower Ghz processors because I figured they wouldnt overclock as high as the 2.8c or 3.0c, but now that I know they can, I think I will get a 2.6c. Thanks!

I know this thread is kinda dead, but I have a follow-up question:

Will the 2.6 OC higher than the 2.4?

Some may, some may not, OC has a lot of luck involved in it

Thats not really a question that can be anwered, as too many variable go in when you start overclocking, somtimes one person may be able to get the CPU to 3.5 while another with the exact same CPU can on only hit 2.6. They are both very good overclockers AFAIK
