I don't understand, I thought the AMD 64 3000+ wasn't coming out until next year? Is the only difference between the 3200+ and the 3000+ is that the 3200+ is 2ghz and the 3000+ is 1ghz? The Athlon 64 3000+ is $215, $200 cheaper than the 64 3200+, if this is true, than I am getting a system based on this processor very soon.

No the Athlon64 3000+ either runs at 1.8GHz and has 1MB L2 cache or at 2GHz with 512KB of L2 cache dependin' on where ya read it but we'll know for sure very soon. What ya seein' there though are pre-order sales but delivery won't be made until the official launch.

Hmmm intresting, if the Athlon 64 3000+ is indeed clocked at 1.8ghz with a 1MB L2 cache, that will be better than it being clocked 2.0 ghz and only 512k cache. What a steal that would be if it has 1.8/1MB because it will only take a slight overclock to achieve 3200+ speeds for $200 US less.

Im not sure. Considering newegg is the probably the biggest US cpu online resaler, they would be in a position to get the newest items. It is wierd that there was no AMD press release though. 200 bucks for a 64-bit proc with 1mb of cache is amazing, and is really hard to believe, but who knows.

    BREAKING NEWS!!!

Well I think I found the info:

    http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=13153

Basically, it should be in stock, the pricing is right, and it has 1mb of lvl2 cache. Holy crap, this has totally destroyed my plans for a new system. Looks like Ill be going 64-bit. :)

    Considering these specs:
    Specification
    Model: AMD Athlon 64 3000+
    Core: ClawHammer
    Operating Frequency: 2.0GHz
    FSB: Integrated into Chip
    Cache: L1/64K+64K; L2/1MB
    Voltage: 1.5V
    Process: 0.13Micron
    Socket: Socket 754
    Multimedia Instruction: MMX, SSE, SSE2, 3DNOW!, 3DNOW!+
    Packaging: OEM(Processor Only)

    Model: AMD Athlon 64 FX-51
    Core: ClawHammer
    Operating Frequency: 2.2GHz
    FSB: Integrateded into Chip
    Cache: L1/64K+64K; L2/1024K
    Voltage: 1.5V
    Process: 0.13Micron
    Socket: Socket 940
    Multimedia Instruction: MMX, SSE, SSE2, 3DNOW!, 3DNOW!+
    Packaging: OEM(Processor Only)

Im thinking this might actually be an underclocked FX-51. Which means, Overclocking would be nuts. If we could get a 200 dollar cpu to run at 750 dollar speeds....mmmm....

Will this processor still be worth considering it has single memory controler?

Charlie eats his Athlon 64 3000+ hat
Newcastle coals to arrive real soon now

Every once in a while, journalists get the glorious chance to eat their words, and today, that happened to me. The Athlon64 3000+ pics and articles I wrote over the last few days all said that the chip was a 1.8GHz, 1MB cache model, and that is what I was told. I had several in my hand, but none plugged into a machine, so no BIOS screen pics. Pity, they would have shown I was wrong right there.
Several people told me that they thought the chips were 2.0GHz, 512k cache, but I blew it off, mainly because the only person I knew with one told me otherwise. Then a helpful reader, Prof133, pointed out that my picture showed it was a 2.0/512 model.

To finish putting the boot in, he pointed me here here, providing me with the info I could not find after 45 minutes of searching AMD's web site. This helpfully provides the OPN decode info for any K7 chip you care to look up, but no K8 analogue. Sigh.

That said, looks like the 3000+ models will be 2.0GHz, 512k cache, and Newcastle arrives early, very early. Words are yummy early in the morning. At least the 3400 decodes right, I am too full to eat more.

    * THE NEW PROCESSORS have started appearing on New Egg's web site and, naturally, and as always, in the Akihabara district of Tokyo
