    Hi
I'm looking to upgrade my processor in a pc chips m810lr mobo
which supports Athlon and Duron 200/266 Fsb.
What would be the best to put in?
    AMD DURON 1.6 266FSB CPU

    AMD DURON 1.8 266FSB CPU

    AMD ATHLON XP2000+ 266MHZ FSB 256Cache Thoroughbred
or could i go even faster

since it supports the 266 FSB for the T-breds, you could even get a 2400+ or 2600+ i would think...

but from that list, the 2000+ would be my choice.

I agree, the Durons aren't bad but as they lack in L2 cache and the fact that price difference between those chip is so small I'd also go for a XP cpu for mutch better performance. :2cents:

I ran a Palammino 2100+ in that mobo, I beleive it takes higher though.

Do yourself a favor if at all possible and get a new mobo, as that one really holds you back, as it uses SDRAM.

Outch, I thought it was a ddr mobo, if that's right then definatley follow amdmans advice to try and replace the mobo or a new cpu won't help mutch performance wise.. :)

From what I have seen, those new durons usually require a bios update or a new mobo anyway and are not worth the trouble. They are meant for oem use. As for the ddr thing, depends what ddr vs what sdr. The difference between good cas2 pc133 and cheap pc2100 is negligible. When it comes to good pc2700 and up, there is a big difference.

So what cpu do you currently have?

That mobo dont allow timing adjusting, and DDR is gonna make a big difference from any PC133, theres en entire 133mhz difference

    duron 800 mhz
I was just thinking 30 or 40 for a cheap upgrade

I'd just upgrade to a 1.3Duron or something, as its not worth the money to buy an Athlon XP thats not even gonna perform to its potential

Ok I found almost 30 different versions of the m810, but none of them LR. Out of those there a crapload of revision numbers. Need to be more specific. Does it have an agp slot? Does it have a soldered in cpu? Some of those do. onboard cpu e810l v9.0m
Ok assuming it's changeable and has an agp slot, it is way better that you are led to believe. If you have the board I think it is, it performs similar to the ecs board below.
I build lots of computers. From low end to crazy $. Along the way I do benchmarks of stuff. One peticular package I have done over 20 of. This machine consists of xp2400, ecs k7s5apro v5 mobo, 512mb pc2100, 40gb western digital 7200rpm 8mb buffer, mitsumi 52x cdrw, sb live, radeon 9000pro 128mb, etc.
So on a few of these machines, while running benchmarks, I switched the 512mb pc2100 for 512mb of my pc133(from my rig). The resulting increase in the mem score is 19.5% with ddr and not the 100% that most claim. And another thing, a 4% difference in cpu score with ddr is far from not performing to its potential. And the 5% increase in 3dmark 2001 with ddr is laughable. Here are the compare url's.(all tests done on same day)
    pc mark 2002 with pc133(default)
    pcmark 2002 pc2100(default)
    3dmark 2001 with pc133(default)
    3dmark 2001 pc2100(default)

Now before anyone says "well thats a crappy mobo", it performes quite well actually, none of the 20+ machines have had mobo related problems. Have even compared this mobo to an asus a7v8x with all components the same as the above package and the results are very close(different chipsets, sis vs via).

This misconception about ddr is widespread(we are not talking about pc2700 and up, just like we are also not talking about pc150 or 100sdr). Just like 4x 8x agp misconception.
So compare and judge for yourself. I would feel bad if I didn't let you in on the truth. If that was me, I would do the xp2400 thing with that board if it is compatable.
