    What would be the minimum amount/type of RAM I have to use for an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ to run properly?

    There are two versions, 333 and 400 chips.

    The 333mhz bus would use PC2700, while the 400mhz bus would use PC3200.

    However I recommend PC3200 anyway so you don't give yourself a bottleneck when you try running your 333 chip at 400, assuming the multiplier is unlocked.

    I think that ya gettin' confused with AthlonXP's there as this thread is on the Athlon64 3000+ (800MHz HyperTransport) which is definately PC3200 territory.

    How much would I be slowing myself down in games if I only had 256MB of PC3200?

    From a little to quite a bit if ya goin' with WinXP as 512MB is its sweet spot for that os.
