    Default AMD 2500M vs AMD 64 3200+ vs AMD 64 3000+

Now, I know you guys are probably goin "WTF there is no comparison", but let me explain my reasoning. If I can get 2.5ghz outta the mobile, that makes it faster than an XP3200+. Now my question is, is the AMD 64 worth the extra $150cdn I'll pay for it? I have a pretty snukum computer lined up (custom built) that is either gonna rely on one of these processors. The bottom line is, its $950 for the mobile, and $1150 for the 64 (this is not including speakers, monitor, blah blah blah). It is just the tower with no GFX card even (well, it depends). Anywho, would the socket 754 with 1mb cache beat up on the mobile oc'd to 2.5, or would it be worth my while to spend the extra money? Thx for any advice guys! (I just want the comparison, no lets see the specs, just straight up between the three of them).

The Mobile could win at 2.5GHz, but you can OC A64s, too. An OCed Mobile won't beat an OCed 64 3200.

In the long run the Athlon64 will pay off.

So then, if its the A64, is it worth the extra $50-60cdn to go from the 3000+ to the 3200+?

If my memory serves me correctly, the 3200+ has 1mb L2 cache, whilst the 3000+ has 512kb L2 cache. The 1mb cache will make games perform better and will work a decent amount faster, especially after you OC it if your going down that route. If you can afford it, I would go ahead with the 3200+.

Cool again. The statement is exactly it, "If you can afford it". This pc is gonna have to last me like AT LEAST 1 and 1/2 years (not that I doubt it will). Well, here are the total sytem specs:

    COOLERMASTER CENTURION2 18inch case
    GIGABYTE GA-K8N NFORCE3 150 ATHLON64 S754 ATX DDR AGP 5PCI ATA133
    OCZ 512MB PC3200 DDR400 CAS2 3-3-6 184PIN (cause dual channel isnt available on socket 754)
MAXTOR 80GB 7200RPM 2MB 8.5MS ATA133 (does the 8mb cache matter on the higher end model?)
AMD ATHLON 64 3200+ PROCESSOR S754 RETAIL BOX
    LG 16X BLACK DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM IDE UDMA33
    VANTEC STEALTH CASE FAN 120MM 1500RPM 53CFM 28DBA 3/4PIN

This system also comes with XP home edition, a very nice Aerocool 550w PS (I read a review on it, and it performed VERY WELL especially for only $100cdn). I will be adding a NVIDIA 6800NU, and finally, my dads friend has a 19 or 21 inch flat screen monitor that hes gonna let go for $100cdn :) I have no worries this system is gonna rock, but I want to make sure that Im not missing out on anything. You guys have been a great help, and I appreciate the honest answers. Thx so MUCH!

    EDIT-
Oh yea, the 3000+ has the 512 cache, while the 3200+ has the 1mb cache, thats why I was leaning towards the 3200+.

Looks good, except you should get a motherboard with the KT800 chipset as it performs better than NForce 3 for the most part. Also, you should be getting a SATA hard drive as it will cost only a little more and your motherboard will have SATA support.

In fact you should not buy any mainboard based on either the nF3 150 or K8T800 chipset. Yes the K8T800 chipset does perform better than the nF3 150 but neither have a working AGP/PCI lock plus both chipsets are now old.
Get a mainboard based on the nF3 250/GB or K8T800 Pro chipsets. There is very little between them in performance but both do have working AGP/PCI locks but this s754 mainboard roundup maybe of help.

wayout get the thumbs up!! Nice, thx for the review. Over at another forum I posted the same question, and they also made the same comments about going with the NForce 3.
