Thread: P4 vs. PM

  1. #1

    Default P4 vs. PM

OK I just can't google anymore. Two question:

    1. Is the 1.4GHz Pentium M faster than a 1.4GHz Pentium 4?
    2. More importantly, how does the 1.4Ghz Pentium4 compare to a 2.0GHz Penitum4? The minimum requirement for NJIT is 2.0Ghz P4.

    EDIT: Is there a 1.4GHz P4?

    I believe the lowest P4 is a 2.0... A quick glance at Intel's site, I was wrong I saw a 1.3 P4 so I guess there is a 1.4
The Pentium M 1.4 should be faster than a 1.4GHz Pentium 4... Dont kow compairisons though.

From the tests I have seen a 2.0ghz Pentium M is about even with an AMD Athlon 64 3200+.

yeah the 1.4 ghz pentium should be a lot faster than the 1.4 ghz pentium 4. If you are going with the pentium m you should make sure it's the dothan with the 2 meg cache. Just for comparison a 2.0 ghz pentium m is faster than a 3.2 ghz pentium 4 in most applications.

I have the Banias. Ok... just to make sure I got everything correctly and be able to yell at the NJIT ppl if they complain bout my laptop, my PentiumM 1.4ghz is faster than the P4 2.0ghz. I'm not even sure if it's a minimum of 2ghz anymore. They are goign to announce it Feb 15 I think. Oh well just answer that one question please TY

A Pentium M should perform better than any other processor currently existing at the same clock speed, including Athlon 64s (though just barely in the case of A64s, and not in every application). A 2GHz P4 isn't even a comparison to a 1.4GHz Pentium M.

I noticed it's a socket 478 chip. Can I attach this to my computer?
