    Cool Worth the upgrade

First of all here are my current Specs:

    Intel 865PERL Mainboard
    Pentium 4 2.0ghz 400fsb
    1GB (2x512) Corsair XMS timeings 2-3-3-6
    pny Geforce fx6600GT v77.72
    Seagate Barracuda 160GB SATA HDD
    NEC ND-3520A DVD-R/RW DL
    Samsung DVD/CD-RW
    Enermax Noisetaker 370W PSU
    Aquamark3 38,081

I wanted to upgrade my processor to a 3.0Eghz/1MB/800fsb with HT but I just found out that my mobo version only supports a 512kb L2 cache. Would it be worth it to upgrade to a 3.0ghz Northwood processor or do you guys think that I should save my money and wait untill I can upgrade the mobo (It might be a good idea) do you think I would get a significant increase in performance? Would it be worth the money? Thanks, you guys rule!

Save your money and upgrade to a S939 AMD64 platform. If you need to so something now, get a Northwood. It will overclock as well as or better than a Prescott and run a whole lot cooler. The P4 is a dying platform and really isn't worth spending much money on. If I were you, a decent Socket 939 motherboard and a AMD64 3000+ or even a 3200+ CPU would cost almost the same as a P4 3.0GHz Northwood and very much outperform it in almost any task at all. And once you overclock the AMD64, no P4 could keep up.

Wow thanks a lot. I think I've realized that I need to get an AMD. I guess I'll save up for one then. I've also heard that the GHZ isnt necessarily as big a deal as the type of processor. Thanks a lot!
