There are no retail samples out. Intel has released a bunch of golden samples for some serious free advertising. They were very smart in doing so as well. If you ask me. Yonah and Merom are going to be the CPU's to have. Until I see a retail Conroe benched against a retail AM2 (which that guy on XS was using) I refuse to buy into it. Time for intel to show their down cards.

I still believe that Intel is going to win this round firmly. AMD does not have anything Earth shattering being released. I just don't think AM2 is as weak as you want us all to believe.

I almost disagree, except it also has lower power consumption, which should mean higher overclocks on average, but nothing huge. Right now the performance king is an overclocked Yonah, not an overclocked FX-62.

Actually though, my real point was that Futuremark number mean nothing. :) The real benchmarks I've seen on hardware sites are much more interested to me than arbitrary numbers.

I do agree. Futuremark benches are rudimentary at best. I also still have a hard time swallowing the Conroe numbers until retail CPU's are producing the same results. And for the record, I firmly believe Yonah and Merom are going to win all wars. But I have no plans at all of getting rid of this 165 anytime soon. 2.9GHz is 100% prime stable and if it cannot run anything that comes out in the next few years even if I must reduce a few details then I will upgrade. I want to wait until AMD has some of their 65nm tuff out before I jump again.

well i dont know where you guys have been reading, but where ive read, there seems to be no benefit with am2, and its worse cause of the higher latencies - amd likes lower latencies. however, those sempron am2 look cheap - 70 for a manila core 2ghz sounds good value to me.

anyhow, this is hopefully digressing? we dont want to trade athlons for semprons heh
seems like a good budget idea, since the am2 boards iv seen arnt too expensive.

DDR2 and lower power output are benefits.

I don't know that Merom/Yonah are going to be better than Conroe. They're great, but they're not just mobile Conroes. They will be better for lower power outage, but I do think a Conroe is going to perform better stock and OCed, which for me is what it ultimately comes down to.

Well, I am negative towards Conroe because the hype is unbearable. Who's to say Intel didn't unleash a batch of golden samples. I know this is far reaching, but it just makes no sense that their cheapest CPU is going to outperform the high end CPU's. That is not good for profits and not good for business. Until the retail versions are released, these hyped up reviews and benchmarks should be taken with a grain of salt. THere is no doubt they are going to be extremely fast. But I just cannot believe that their base models will keep up with the higher models clock for clock. Even these wonderful AMD CPU's for the most part do not do that. Sure there are some great low end CPU's, I even have one. But enough with the hype and release some CPU's to the public.
