The Q6600 does support virtualization (Intel VT) and the 8200 does not. I have it oc to 3.1 GHz on air with 8GB of RAM. no problems

Hmm... so I've got to consider Watts as well. Thanks.

Yes, CPUs (in AUD) are that expensive.

What's special about the ud3 ones?

    Okay, now I'm really confused!

Virtualisation is free, however virtualisation isn't on Q8200... but Q8200 has it since the middle of last year

    WOWIE! This is really confusing!

There is a difference between having hardware support for Virtualization and not having it. The Q6600 does have hardware support the Q8200 does not. Go to the Intel web site and check it for yourself. Microsoft supports both the virtualization that is supported by the hardware (MS Product for this is Hyper-V) and vituralization that is not supported by the hardware (MS products for this are Virtual Server and Virtual PC.) Hardware support is much better now and in the long run.

    Hi

Thanks. That is the deciding factor. I will now be getting a Q6600.

Just 1 question, on the stock cooler, how much would I be able to overclock my Q6600?

(even if I'd only get .1, I'd still like to know!)

    Thanks in advance,

    Panarchy

I don't use the stock cooler. I use a $50.00 cooler bought at Newegg. It is the Thermaltake V1 Max. It is reasonably quiet but you need to have room in your case for it. It allows me to go from the stock speed of 2.4GHz to 3.15GHz. about a 30% overclock on air cooling. I doubt that the stock cooler will get anywhere close.

    Good luck

Yes, but what is the most OC I can get with the stock cooler?

You will have to ask that of someone else.

I don't want to spend much on, well anything.

So I'd like to use the stock heatsink, and stock cooler fans, and a neat Case.

So would I still be able to overclock?

    If so, to how much?
Well my friend claims he has his at 3.6GHz on stock cooling, so you probably don't have to worry. Mount as many fans as you can to be safe. Try to use 120mm fans and run them fast. Also, use LOTS of thermal paste =] and only go up by 50MHz at a time... If it was viable I'd say go for CO2 or Liquid Nitrogen cooling, or just stick the motherboard in a fridge (I'm actually planning to try that at some point... a whole computer in a fridge xD). Water will be good, but you might not have to worry about it. For now, just use as many fans as possible and some decent heatsinks.

I expect you'll find yourself able to about 2.8GHz EASILY on stock cooling.
Try something called Prime95 when your finished, it's a stress tester, to see if you're still running stably.
What my friend does, is he run benchmark tools and writes them down, overclocks until he can't boot windows properly, then goes down a bit till he can, then runs Prime95 for 6 hours, and then after it tells him he's stable he goes up slightly and does it again. He tells me his Q6600 is usually running around 68-80*C. I've got the Q8200, and, while it is good, it's not much of a gaming processor. For that, I'd go for AMD. What are you planning to use this for? My current system is a media computer (although I only use paint and occasionally photoshop...)

    Good luck.
