    Default Q9550 Or E8500???

Basically the title says it all. Which one would be better. Gaming and DVD Encoding??? Currently I have the E8500 @ 3.8 but I may have the opportunity to swap for a Q9550. Would My Arctic Square Cooler be enough to keep the Q9550 temps down with it overclocked to say 3.6?

With the Quad you will got a great boost in dvd encoding..and for the game.. it,s will be a bit faster.. they don't support quad core already..
for you're cpu cooler.. I chek on few website..yeah it's will support you're cpu overclocked ^^
    Have fun!

Once you mentioned "DVD Encoding" then the quad is the way to go.

BTW "bump" posts are really useless IMO.

Yeah I think that is deffinatly the right answer. Its actually gunna be a Q9650 Now so the Clock is even higher which has pretty much pushed me over the line. My friend has a Q6600 stock and it still hauls ass so I dont know why I would be worried about the new ones with higher clock speed. Ill keep you's posted what happens. Im just doing a deal with someone at the moment. Its a long complicated story. But lets just say im trying to swing it so I can get out of this ****e 8800GT and into a HD4850 at least at the same time.

If your going to spend that much on a s775 processor why not just go i7 with this?

But I assume you wanna keep your RAM, Mobo, etc so the 9650 would be fine I guess..

It will overclock to at least 4ghz... Mine should have but I have the stupid E0 stepping.

Definately the quad core. But an i7 would work.
    Current system:
    - Intel Q8200 Processor (2.33GHz) (7x multi, roughly 340MHz FSB)
    - Intel DG45ID Motherboard (stupid locked BIOS >:( )
    - 6 GB DDR2 RAM (667MHz)
    - PNY GeForce 9500GT (750MHz Core clock, 1900MHz Shader clock, 500MHz Memory clock)
    -585GB SATA HDD (7200RPM)

Well Basically, I got a dell with a core I7 and ATIHD4850 in it with 8GB of ram. And Because its a dell its stuck @ Stock clock and after my little benchmark with Fallout 3 My Signiture system was heaps faster. I think Dell have possible just muffed the I7 mb up or something cause its running a RAID 1 and it is noticably slower than my single boot hdd. Anyway the I7 is the office fileserver/BIONIC beast, I just liberated the HD4850 and put the trusty GF7300LE in its place. It dont need much graphics power since its not even gunna have a screen attached. My Sig system is running so fracking sweet now. Doing all the right things, Ive made Windows 7 the only system on that machine as everything works and fast.... My other Dell with a Pentium D 950 @3.4 and 3gb + 8800GT(which seems to be working ok for some reason? maybe the X48-DS5 just didnt like it???) is doing the job for the wife to stuff with, I finally got the Drive Cloned and it works a treat. Ill just keep that for a good working copy of all my stuff and programs for when/if this 7200.11 poo's itself. I love it when stuff works out.

The Quad core/ I7 would have kicked ass for my dvd ripping and encoding but the C2D already does it ship loads quicker than the PD. So im happy for now till I can afford/I7 drop in price.
