    Unhappy i7 920 @ default settings fails Prime95!

    hello TweakTowners!

just had my i7 a week now, but not looking sunny atm!

i was hoping to do a mild oc of 3.2ghz or so, and was planning on asking for settings
advice in the gigabyte forum, but thought i'd check the system with Prime95 first.

i didnt try any oc-ing at all yet! and everything is still at default settings,
however Prime95 has failed with fatal rounding errors everytime i tried it!

idle core temp is around 40, and it gets up to 71 during the tests, (see pic)
which have only managed to run for around 6min before freezing the whole system!

i have also checked the ram with 2 complete error free passes of memtest 2.11.
now i'm starting to think something is wrong with the cpu itself!

i am no expert, so i would really appreciate your opinions & suggestions.

    many thanks in advance

    PiN

ViRuS2k, thanks for your offer, sorry i didnt reply sooner, i'd kinda given up!!

well, apart from the memory which i have set to 1.64v, 1600mhz & 7-7-7-24 as recommened
by OCZ, and checked for 5 hours with memtest without errors,
everything else is still at default settings = auto.

i've done a stability test with Everest on just the cpu, and got hardware failure after
7 min, with coretemp readings of 72C.

Think i'm going to rma the whole system & let the shop sort it out!

but here's my system specs & settings, any suggestions are more than welcome.
