Lightbulb Stock i7 960 tempurature worries.

Hello all, My question is in regaurds to my stock i7 960 and its temps at idle and load.
I currently have a thermaltake spin Q fan on it, on idle the average temp across all cores is about 30-34 degrees celcius. Now, when I tested it on prime95 for about ten minutes the temps hovered around 67-69 degreesC. When I ran 3Dmark serveral times temps topped at about 50-56C max.
Are those temps normal? Do I need a better fan? Thanks guys for any input

whats the stock speed of the chip? 6 core or 4 core? sorry for noob questions but i dont have time atm to google, looks ok to me but if you plan on overclocking i would get a better fan or better heatsink and fan combo, you might be able to reduce temps by lowering cpu voltage, what cpu voltage are you using or what is auto using?

The chip is a 4 core, the vcore fluctuates from .912v up to 1.26v (its set to 'normal' in the BIOS) I don't plan to overclock, I was just worried about whether or not the higher temps would harm my cpu eventually..

its a tiny bit on the high side but not dangerous, for 3.2ghz it looks about right,it depends on your ambient room temps and the rpm fan your using, good quality thermal paste will help like tuniq tx or mx2,much better than arctic silver

EDIT,its a gigabyte board your using? you might be able to reduce cpu voltage even further by keeping it on normal and try setting dvid to -0.0500v or -0.0600v this would reduce total load cpu voltage to 1.2v or 1.21v instead of 1.26v,cpu would still downclock when idle, you would need to test for stability

aslong as your core temps stay under 80c full load you wil be fine, some say higher but 80c is safer

I am using a gigabyte mobo. So I followed your advice and set the dvid to -0.0500 and ran some of the same gaming benchmarks and temps stayed in the low 50's which is about 10-15 percent better than before. the vcore now fluctuates between .865 to .1226v, and so far everything appears to be stable. This small change appears to make a pretty good difference. I plan to re-seat the cooler once I get some quality thermal paste in the mail. Thanks for the advice!

50c is just right for 3.2ghz,you can always improve on stock or auto voltages and lower temps
