I run Seagate Savvio 146GB 10K.2 drives in RAID 1 on my LSI Logic MegaRAID 8708EM2 controller on my workstation:

    supermicro X7DWA-N motherboard
Dual Intel E5430 quad core 2.66 GHz 1333 MHz FSB Xeons
    16 GB FB-DIMM DDR667 Ecc Reg
LSI Logic MegaRAID 8708EM2 with 128 MB cache SAS RAID controller, PCIe x8

    Hot Spare: 1 x Seagate Savvio SAS 146GB 10.6K
    RAID 1: 2 x Seagate Savvio SAS 146GB 10.6K

Two Supermicro 8 drive enclosures, one on each channel of the 8708EM2 controller connection with 1 (Controller) to 4 (enclosure) connection cable.

I am not sure why you are not seeing performnace increases. How did you configure that controller? Do you have a battery installed properly to get write cache fully working?

Adaptive Read Ahead, Direct IO, Write Cache enabled with a battery.

1.) Vista x64 Ultimate installed in under 16 minutes from DVD

    1.) Benchmark Results
    Drive Index : 104.84MB/s
Results Interpretation : Higher index values are better.
    Random Access Time : 1ms
Results Interpretation : Lower index values are better.

    Windows Experience Index
    Current Drive : 5.9
Results Interpretation : Higher index values are better.

    Performance Test Status
Run ID : LSI MegaRAID 8708EM2 146GB (RAID, NCQ)
    Platform Compliance : x64
    System Timer : 3.58MHz
Operating System Disk Cache Used : Yes
    Use Overlapped I/O : Yes
    I/O Queue Depth : 4 request(s)
    Test File Size : 16GB
    File Fragments : 4
    Block Size : 1MB

    Detailed Benchmark Results
    Buffered Read : 1.01GB/s
    Sequential Read : 119.73MB/s
    Random Read : 128.25MB/s
    Buffered Write : 679.29MB/s
    Sequential Write : 31.91MB/s
    Random Write : 31.21MB/s

I was going to get Passmark, when I upgrade to 15K SAS drives.

You really can't compare results from one system to another, that is why we review all of the drives on one system and if something has changed then we make a detailed note of it.

I was wondering how your configured the RAID controller and the RAID array? Your benchmarks should have been higher.
