Default RunCore SSD maintenance / Garbage Collection implementation?

In August of 2009, Engadget.com ran a story about new firmware released with Garbage Collection that helped improve the performance of the SSDs.

Would RunCore Marketing be able to tell us when these features will be coming to RunCore SSDs?

I would also like to know what the official RunCore recommendation is for SSD maintenance as my Samsung SSD's performance has degraded over the last year of heavy use and I don't want that to happen to my RunCore drive.

Question Re: RunCore SSD maintenance / Garbage Collection implementation?

Im interested in the question too. I hope they implement something like that in the NEAR future. The question is if that feature is property of OCZ or Indilinx.

What about that Matt? Did you know something? It would be really great to mantain the performance of the ssd like new.

RunCore uses the Indilinx controller from what I understand. That is why I started this thread.

This feature what we looking for calls "TRIM" see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRIM_(SSD_command) and http://t13.org/Documents/UploadedDoc...r_ATA-ACS2.doc
I think that Runcore SSD do not support this, because they are fully compliant with ATA-7 Standard.
Hey you guys from Runcore make some statement to this please!
    Cheers

The operating system needs to support TRIM so for the majority of us today the feature is useless.

Use a Mac? TRIM is useless.
    Use FreeBSD/OpenSolaris? TRIM is useless.
Use Windows XP or Windows Vista? TRIM is useless.

TRIM is only supported by Windows 7 under certain conditions (no RAID etc). Garbage collection is not the silver bullet that TRIM is, but it has already been implemented on other brand's SSDs using the same brand of controller (and possibly same controller) that RunCore uses. I hope that helps explain why I didn't ask about TRIM.

Linux kernel 2.6.33+ do support TRIM now.
