I might point out that the two of us also have exactly the same SSD, the 128G with the Intel flash.

The XT might be the issue, but it found the drive just fine - and as you pointed out in the other thread it runs OK with Win XP. Sure seems more like it's something particular to this SSD model than the laptop.

    Pro IV Z1828-C
    on a HP 2710p

    PN: 14092800

    Error after flashing:
    [ERROR]Firmware download fail!

    What does that mean?

Firmware seems to be updated to __1916 according Win Device Manager

Matt, my Mainboard is a DFI Lanparty DK P45-T2RS Elite
    LGA 775-Core 2 Duo, 4Gb DDRII, Intel P45+ICH10R.

I dont use onboard sound, video, or LAN but do use the IDE channel as well as the 6 SATA ports to support 2 RAID-1 arrays built with Samsung 1tb drives

mheere, i mostly hold all branded PC's in contempt, but in the wintel world, the Dell is among the worst

Most all branded PC's are built with bulk purchased obsolete parts, and often also involve many brand-specific parts, and we wont go into their versions of OEM operating systems...

I'm a Systems Support Engineer, i get to fix the danged things...
    I'll take a nice white-box any day

    asus 901 eee pc

    runcore 70mm mini pci runcore 4 32gb sata/pata

    initial firmware: 1571

8 on 10 standby problems on winxp

    initial speed 125mb/s random reads

    --------------------------------------------

    upgraded firmware: 1571 to ?1819?

2 on 10 standby problems on winxp

speed drop from 125mb/s to 75mb/s random reads

    --------------------------------------------

    upgraded firmware: ?1819? to 1916

no more standby problems on winxp!

speed drop from 75mb/s to 40mb/s random reads

most worse: random writes went down from 50mb/s to 0.02mb/s so the os is hanging and booting slow

(already waited 2 hours, because the auto GC maybe be running on background, still dramatic drop down in read and write speed (like unusable for anything! 0.02mb/s WRITE(at 1MB, 512kb and 4kb random write) please advise, something is wrong!))

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: i already got 3 black screens!!!!!!!

READ speed dropped down to 0.5mb/s and 0.01mb/s write
But most worse is i get black screens after some running time! It already happend 3 times!
1 time after an half hour, to other time after 10 minutes, and another time after an hour!
    The 4th time it rebooted!

Something is seriously wrong with fw 1916! Speed is no more and black screens / reboots are coming after some runtime.

Boot time dropped from a minute to 25minutes!!!!!

    Please advise!

NEW UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: i reflashed the runcore4 32gb from 1916 to 1916 because i only had 0.5mb/s and 0.01mb/s write, now after this reflash the speed is coming higher every hour!

i now have 50mb/s read and 3.4mb/s write, i think the speed is now slowly restoring, afterall i had no black screens after the reflash. I still am testing, so far the reflash with 1916 again helped restoring speed somehow and somehow avoided the black screens. I think the GC is running in the background correctly now, recovering the full speed, but it takes time i think.

I am testing it and will post update soon. Nomatter what, some things arent right with the 1916 firmware, however no data was lost so far, so no reinstall was needed. Will post a reply soon!

NEW UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: minute after minute the speed is becoming faster! i now have 67mb/s read and 4.2mb/s write!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no data lost so far, only a reflash with same firmware was needed to fix the problem!
to runcore: please try to debug the problem, my upgrade went not 100%

NEW UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: minute after minute the speed is becoming faster! i now have 88mb/s read and 3mb/s write!!!! The write is still slow but the reflash helped improve read spead minute to minute!!! I still wonder why i had to flash the same 1916 twice to fix the spead and black screen problem!

NEW UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: hours after minutes the speed is becoming faster! i now have 98mb/s read and 5mb/s write!!!!

NEW UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: hours after minutes the speed is becoming faster! i now have 106mb/s read and 6.8mb/s write!!!! this means firmware 1916 overperform firmware 1816!! see speeds at the beginning of my post!

NEW UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: hours after minutes the speed is becoming faster! i now have 115mb/s read and 9mb/s write!!!!

ALMOST A DAY LATER SPEEDS ARE STILL RISING(ALL APPS CLOSED AND SPEEDS STILL RISING DUE FW1916):

AFTER RUNNING SOME TIME SPEED COMES BACK

    GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UPDATE WAS DONE!!!!!!!!!!

    Overviewproblems:

    1) After updating 1819 to 1916 speed dropped to 0.01mb/s for read and writes + i got black screens after some running time
waiting many hours, only after a reflash 1916 to 1916 black screen went bye and speed started raising
    2) After every reboot speed was lost again and again to 0.01mb/s, i had to run my eee 901 long enough till initial speed was restored again, rebooting to soon dropped speed again, only waiting a day to restore speed KEPT the speed after reboot (possible because of the hidden update proces to rewrite the entire ssd or maybe the garbage collection running in background had to complete 100% to keep the speed after reboot, one time this was done, i could reboot without losing the speed)

    3) so far so good, some small problems with long waiting times, scary period because of the black screens, the 1916 fixed my standby problem + fixed the ssd to run in optimal speed again, speed is good again, it almost took a half year to fix this issues, but they are fixed now! still testing 1916 but i am happy afterall. also no data was lost! keep up the good work!

i wish i could pry it out of this guys hands for more than a few hours...

anyone have luck, or know if this is doable when the drive is in the usb enclosure? or, maybe i'll pick up a zif > ide adapter and try to flash on another machine...

I think it may be a Dell issue :S

    #1 Computer Model
    Dell Latitude D430

#2 Runcore Drive Part # and Serial #
    RunCore Pro IV PATA ZIF 1.8" 64GB (Samsung D-die) F/W 1819

    Invalid SSD!

*edit* Had a quick look around and the f/w upgrade error appears to be a known issue with Indilinx SSDs and Dells with ICH7-M southbridges. I've been trying to run the f/w update through a USB-ZIF converter on my Mac (via WinXP on VMWare; only other comp I have) and it's saying it can't find a PCI BIOS. I may have to try installing Windows on another HDD on the Dell to see if that fixes the issue.

    hi skyther,

thank you for your post; I as well have a D430 with the same runcore SSD and thought about updating my FW. did you already find a solution to the problem? I don't want to remove my SSD because everything is so fragile so it would be perfect if the FW update works in the laptop.

    thanks, super

    Hi,

I ended up upgrading the firmware by using a HP Mini 1000. The USB caddy method will not work - the updater will report that it is unable to find the HDD.

I suspect the issue may be caused by either something in the Dell bios or possibly an internal PATA/SATA converter used.

    hey skyther,

thank you for your reply - too bad! so I guess its again a problem the runcore tech support has to solve. unfortunately I don't know anybody having a subnotebook or netbook with a ZIF interface ...

Just curious, when you say "USB caddy won't work", you're referring to using an external enclosure, right?

Wondering if a ZIF to 3.5 (or 2.5) PATA IDE adapter would work? Would sure be easier to come up with than another machine with this interface.
