well judging by what you want on it, you will want a pretty big HDD

oh, and you might want to use win 98 cos xp on a 300 or something is really really slow

Yeah a lappy capable of running XP well and for 1500 is out of the question.

98 or even winme runs well on laptops.
not as well as win2k of course

      :)

for 1500 you could prolly get a p2 or if your lucky- a low end celery with 64meg ram and a gig or 2 of hdd space

        IBM

out of those two i would get the ibm, its got more ram faster cpu and it will make winxp just that little bit faster and since its for school, you don't need a DVD drive :)

out of those two, the IBM is definitely the better deal. You've got 2x the RAM, and built in network.. which saves you buying a PCMCIA card or something for networking.. which you probably will be using with your home PC...

i'd say you'd want at least 256 MB of RAM, if you wanna run XP...
