  • Geforce GT 6800 OC AGP or what else??

Hey everyone, this is my first post. I recently rebuilt my computer and am running a Pen 4 3.2 1gig ram. I unfortunately bought an AGP Motherboard. So, I need to find out the best AGP cards there are because I really dont want to rebuild.

The best I can find is the Geforce GT 6800 OC AGP 256 mb card. I looked at the X800xl but am not sure which is better, or if there is anything else out there. If anyone could help, that would be great!!

Very shortly, there will be the 7800GS AGP card that will be the top dog. If that card is out of your budget, then get the 6800GS AGP. Both of those cards are the best out for being futureproof the longest in the AGP standard.

There are lots of variations too so look carefully before you buy if you go this way:

      Pointofview 7800GS (Reviewed at Guru3D) is 375/1200

      BFG 7800GS OC(Reviewed at bit-tech) is 400/1250

      XFX 7800GS (Reviewed at Bjorn3D) is 440/1300

being 16/6 and non unlockable certainly reduces the options a tad but the oc potential seems to be there.

At the stock 375/1200 this card hardly out performs the 6800GT, if budget is a concern you wouldn't lose much if you got a 6800Ultra or GT or GS

Many of the 6800GS AGP versions are unlockable, but I have no clue if the 7800GS AGP is, I have not read the reviews. As for different speed cards, these 6800's ocerclock so well that the cheapest version will almost certainly keep up with the factory overclocked versions. My cards run no sweat @ 530/1300 and they are factory 450/1100.

Only one or two problems. I only have a 400 Watt power supply. I read one review of the 6800 ultra and is said it requires a 480 power supply. Does this require less power than the ultra?

Also, what other requirements should I check?

either way you should upgrade your PSU, but it should power any 6800 series @ stock speeds.

What does unlockable pipelines mean, and is the 6800 GS better than the 6800 GT?

Dude instead of ragging on everyone componenets how about helping them out? I mean no disrespect but saying to everyone that this component is crap and that component is crap is kinda annoying.

I mean I myself am just a casual gamer and I am very happy with some of the cards you say are crap. My x800GTO, 9800Pro and GF3 Ti200 are all serving me well.

Isn't the art of overclocking simply about getting the most out of your components? I mean if you can only afford a cheap card you have to find a way to make it work even if that means playing a game at 640x480 or 800x600 right?

the way you phrase this makes me think you have never seen an xl. i have a x800gto2 unlocked to specs slightly above the xl, its awesome :) the performance charts indicate that the x800xl is slightly above the 6800gt in gaming, even though it doesnt support sm3. therefore you sound like an nvidia fanboy stereotype. :(
personally i think they are pretty even.

                        hey man,
not bashing u,mabye the card that i helped 2 seperate freinds install in there pcs that i built ,yet they insisted x800xl at the time when 6800gt\ultra was out,for the money i screamed 6800gt all day.so long story 2 pals both at comp usa got x800xls for $300 and found out in less then 1 hour i had 2 of my freinds that couldnt run quake4 for its price worth anything.i mean it was getting 1024x768-med settings and doggy 50 percent of the time ,on hi settings forget it,ran like po0(pcs had 2 gigs each of ram).comp usa had no problem giving both my pals back there cash and they grabbed 2 6800gts at the other branch i drove 42 miles :p and we installed them and will never forget how low the 3dmark06 scores were using x800 vs new 6800gt at the time, lol.im not bashing i seen, installed, run games, benchies for freinds and watched to my dismay there getting $300 bones for these things, when 6800gts were avaible?and 1 more thing,i dont get rude or rumble back at ppl,but i will say this if u look at my past posts i said i only said x300,x700,and x800 are crap not all, sorry if your model was mentioned and flare at me and say i call everything crap?.far from true.x800xt,x850xt-or-pe,x1800,x1900xtx,6800,7300,7600,7800,7900 any series on these models are very good cards for average under $300 this year of 2006.sorry after i seen my pal score 1,300 on 3dmark06 i seen enuff, sorry to talk about your x800 :p

ps-my 9800pro was good 3 years ago for quake3,et when it came out...no doubt.and 1 more thing i have many freinds who buy all my old cards after 6months-year and the guy i sold the 9800pro he recently attempted to play bf2 and he unistalled the game because 1024x768 on low at 15-20 fps is unacceptable he said,i agreeded and told him thats why i sold it to u

overclocking thought-well lets say u had a cpu chip amd64,p4 etc with a proper fan yes a overclock is ok for mhz out of the cpu.now onto the gpu(vid card)pipe enabling facts-pipeline are built with certain number of pipes at once for example the 6800 core has 16 pipes(nv40)not all the pipes are going to pass all the tests nvidia puts there cards threw,so long story short if lets say 1 6800gt had 6 pipes fail, they then have a solid low price 8 pipe card for sale(got me so far?)now that card is renamed 6800?? ovoiusly higher model number then the cards that had al 16pipes enabled pass with flying colors and being sold as say 6800ultra.unlocking the other broken pipes sometimes don,t work to or revert back(rarely).they were disabled for a reason.i have known ppl who enabled pipes and 1 year later cards failed due to enabled broken pipes finally crashed...
