  • heatsink/fan clearance

Today I went out and bought a Thermaltake DuOrb cpu heatsink/fan. It's supposed to be compatible with AM2 socket Mobo's. I have an Athlon X4 630 cpu on a Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 Mobo and now that I have the DuOrb at home I haven't taken it out of the box because I don't know if it will clear my ram sticks which are Corsair DDR2 XMS with built in heat spreaders. Can anyone speak to this issue or does anyone have any experience with this combination of parts. In other words should I be looking for a different cooler for my CPU?

It is compatible with AM2 motherboards however if you have excessively tall ram then it may not clear. The only thing to do would be to trial fit it.

If you are concerned it is not compatible then put the heatsink in place first on the CPU without removing the protective film on the base and other accessories. Check if the ram clears.

Which GA-M57SLI-S4 rev. do you have? As the DDR slots on the rev1.0 sit closer to the cpu.
For those using a case like mine make sure u unclip the rear fan (can place back after install). but most important u have to use hole 2 on the mounting brace to ensure fan is panned fully to the right side. in other words, it needs to be braced as far away as allowed from the rear fan to ensure no interference or rubbing.

Thanks both of you for your feedback. My Gigabyte board is Rev-2.0. I guess I'll do what Michael says and try it without installing it and then exchange it for something else if it doesn't look like it will fit
