    Default boot problem with sg33g5

i have sg33g5 for two month now:

    sg33g5
    2 g ram gskill
    q6600
    8500gt silent 512 asus

in the past two weeks, the shuttle wont boot the morning, lights are on, fans are working, but no blue led.
    after several attempt it boot.

if i reboot the shuttle after two or three hours, it happens lot less.

i put the latest firmware (z), no change.

if i remove the pcie card , no problemo, it boot each time normally, if i put another card 8600 gt msi, same problem (it wont boot)

    any idea?

    thanks

i think it might be a compatibilty issue with the cards but i let me check to make sure.
Have you been switching the jumpers for PCIE graphics card?

    yes i move the jumpers

i must tell that that configuration works very well for more than a month.
suddenly i have to hit power button for a dozen times before it boot.

i tried 2 different cards. if i remove additional pcie card, no more problem.

    thanks

Try to reflash your BIOS again with version Z under DOS mode,
    with the following syntax
    awdflash.exe SG33S10Z.bin /cd/sn/py

and double check your jumper again

if all fails, you will have to send the machine back for RMA.

Is this the correct command line entry for BIOS update, parameters /cd/sn/py are all that is needed? I noticed that the orange text warns additional parameters are required for using the awdflash.exe method for updating.

Can this be done with a Win98 floppy boot disc as my optical drive is SATA and I can't seem to get that one to boot with a clean image.

yes that command line is the same as whats on the website.

depending on what your planning to boot with theres going to be different ways with
floppy disk, USB flash disc, or CD.

I can't get CD-Rom to work because of SATA drive and I am not going to hang a IDE CD-Rom drive on the PC. I do have a floppy drive just for loading drivers under XP which is easier to get to then the IDE connector.

USB I also have but it looks more of a hassle, I do have a Win98 boot up floppy from my days of using Win98. I guess I will try to use that one depending on space.

It always has been easy for me to update BIOS but this one seems to be a bit more difficult then your plain vanilla mobo version.

You can also create a usb flash drive boot disk as well that what I use to flash my shuttle which also has a sata dvdrw drive. There is a simple utility created for use with HP usb flash drive if you do some searching on the net I am sure you could find a link it will work with most other brands of flash drives as well.

Thanks for the tip. I did downloaded the HP Drive Key Utility and I will try this. Did you use that one or the HP Windows Format Utility for USB Drive Key (that one I can only get an old version.

    Thanks
