hello, i'm a real n00b when it comes to RAID set ups so here's my question.
i have two maxtor ata133 drives, problem is, one is 40gb and one is 80gb. now can i partition the 80 into 2 40s and run like a 3 disk raid? or does it not work like that?

    sorry doesnt work like that

Also if you want good performing raid, the drives must be same. Not just size, but seek time, cache and all that other stuff.

If you search, there was a great post a while back about RAID setups with plenty of links to tell you more than you need to know about RAID.

Yes to get the full benefits of RAID ya need two HDD's of the same size, speed and model.
