    dont worry bout it. Its only a secondary system, i'll just bring it to the techies.

    I've tried but can't find anything like what you said. I've included dxdiag. Plz help. Even though this is a secondary system its still vital to me.

    Have ya tried usin' another CDROM as it's not unknown for them to just die now and again? :?:

    As this is a secondary sys the only existing drive is the one that is not responding. I just finished cleaning all dust in the tower and made sure all the plugs were properly connected. Any other suggestions?

    Replace the drive. Drives die, it happens.

    but i bought this drive at the start of the year. If its not under IDE what else could it be under?

    If you bought it at the start of the year, then it should be under warranty. Get it replaced, instead of floundering around elsewhere.
