I have a single NT4 Server in a single Domain with a single ATA/66 30Gb hard drive. A new Dell server was purchased with 3 matched ATA/133 80Gb hard drives and a RAID controller that will be configured as RAID-5. The Win2K Server OS came pre-installed in the new box.

Here's my question: In your collective opinions, what is the best way to migrate network settings, application and data to the new server? I know I can input the network settings manually and add all the machine and client accounts manually, and use the most recent tape backup to restore data, but I'd like to avoid having to reinstall all the application software if possible (though some will have to be newly-reinstalled anyway because the Win2K and WINNT4 versions are different and have different drivers)

Any hints, tricks, tips or pitfalls to avoid in the changeover process?

I forgot to add that WIN2K server will be in Mixed mode, since several of the workstations are still Win9x.

If your upgrading to 2k from NT4, time to go buy some new mags, cuz you'll be reinstalling all the new applications. If you just tried to do a backup and then take it off the tape drive onto the new OS, you'll be asking for mroe headaches. Id just backup all critical data and conent, then install all your apps onto the new box, set everything up right (Im pretty sure you cant migrate settings from NT4 to 2k unless your upgrading) and then throw all your data/content back into the programs. Sorry dude, happy reading :)
