Hi all, I was wondering.. could I install the HDD from my old HP into one of my new rigs? If I could how would that work? would my PC recognize XP home on the old HDD or XP pro on the new HDD? I only want to hook up the old HDD because I have lots of media on it.

Just open up the computer, and plug the drive in (while the computer's off, :D ). As long as you don't switch the drives around, it shouldn't recognize the OS on the other HDD. Even if it did, it probably wouldn't work if you tried to boot into it (different drivers and such on the other HDD). But you should check for the speed (RPM) of the drive first (it should be in a manual and\or on the drive itself), as it will slow down your other drive if it's slower and on the same channel (which it most likely will be).

As long as your PC is not set to boot from it, it SHOULD work fine.

They won't be in your Media Player library (or whatever they call it now), but the songs should be somewhere on the 2nd HDD.

what do you mean by "SEARCH"?
btw it will show as a Disk Drive in "My Computer" and you will be able to access as you do with a folder.

Just tell Media Player to search for more music files. You can tell it on which drive you want it to search. Once it searches the new drive and finds all your music, those files will show up in Media Player.
