I'm having problems understanding why your motherboard won't play nice with your hard drive as a regular IDE device. I've seen it where the bios wouldn't recognize the full size of a larger disk without installing a dynamic disk overlay on the hard drive to fool the bios into accepting a disk size beyond the built in barrier but the disk is usually recognized (just not always to it's full potential). I'm with joedemagio on this one in thinking that your problem may be in the jumper settings.
