Default Help with Hard Drive Recommendations (Internal?/External?)

Hello, I currently Own a Dell 2350 and I have never put in a hard drive before. I wanted to get a Western Digital 120GB 7200RPM hard drive and put it in. I was wondering if that would be a good recommendation.

Also i was wondering since I am inexperience with putting a HD in, if an external HD would be nice? And if sum1 has an external HD, is there anything I need to know?

    Thanks for your time

I prefer internal as speeds are generally better than external models. As for your choice in hard drive, you should do well with the WD brnad. I've got several in use and they tend to last a long time without data errors and corruption problems. Unless your Dell came with a pair of drives (would have to have been special ordered for this usually), there should be a spare 40-pin connection and power coupler for this addition.

i believe it has the spare place for it. Would it be hard to install and would i get an IDE version if i were to get internal?

    Thanks again

No, they're not that hard to install. You should get some instructions with the new drive, you'll need to set the jumper to slave, install it in an open bay with four screws (also provided in most cases) hook up the spare 40 pin and a power connection.
Then once it's all installed and powered up, you'll have to go into Disk Management and format it.
Biggest thing, read the instructions before you start.

You don't need to do this but since your adding a new drive, you might benifit a little by making the new INTERNAL drive a master and putting the operating system on it assuming your old drive is slower (eg. less RPM and buffer size), ofcourse that would mean reformating the old drive if you made it a slave.
