Exclamation Is My Seagate about to die??

Hi all, I have a ST3750330SV, 750GB HDD in one of my computers as the sole drive in it. It has been fine and I have yet to have any noticable problems with it but just recently it has started to make some worrying noises. It Doesnt seem to do it when its under load (activly looking at folders and stuff) just when Im browsing the web and what not. It makes a loud noise kinda like its writing and reading, more like the noise when you first turn the computer on. Its like the needle is flicking back and forth or something. Its hard to discribe. It will do it once normally and back to normal, but sometimes it had done it twice in a row. Im worried. I do not have any Vista indexing or defraging or any crap like that running ever. Its only recently started doing it.

If anyone had any ideas let me know. If you need a more detailed discription of the sound I will try.

Well Some time later and It still not dead. Still does the funny neadle sound thing, even when I was copying something the other day and it didnt seem to effect transfer speed or anything so IDK. I have cloned the drive so, Bring on a failure. Im only 1 year into the 5 year warranty it came with.

Download Seatools, burn it to a cd, boot it and test your drive.

I'm glad that your Seagate it's just fine!
One of my Seagate it's dead! No strange sounds, not bad performance, just dead after I turned off the computer and I started it.

Well, thats no good buddie. I guess Its bound to happen to someone. Loosing data sucks, thats why I finally back up all my stuff. I am now running another 7200.11 1TB HDD in my dell with an image of everything off the 750GB 7200.11 drive, and upgraded vista to Windows 7. I nearly re ghosted because the RC1 of Windows 7 was/is far worse than the X64 Build Im running (however a clean install would probably be the go not upgrading) anyway workin some of the bugs out and for some reason the 1TB is ship loads quicker so maybe the 750gb is slowly dying? IDK but I dont trust it for my everyday machine being the sole copy of my most important stuff. Hope you have better luck in the future dude.

I have a backup just for the important stuff, but still I lost a lot of things. I will try to backup everytime when I need and I hope to have better luck, like you said, in future. Now I need to see if I can get another HDD, because I don't have any guarantee.
