I just got WD Caviar 80G Drive ATA100. I'm Using ATA133 Round Cable 24". Is it true that You lose data if you use cable longer than 18"? And is it ok if I use ATA133 cable insted of ATA100?

    Thank You.

it is possible to lose data with cables longer than 18...but using sheilded cables will improve those odds. Since I personally dont want to risk data loss and corruption I stick with sheilded 18" cables.

There is no problem with using an ATA133 cable with an ATA100 device.

ATA 66, 100 and 133 all use the same 40-pin 80-conductor IDE cable.
Confusing as they may be labeled as any, or any combination of the above.

Yes, unless it is necessary in order to reach, use an 18" cable to avoid data corruption.
