I have my Maxtor HD hooked up as the only drive on my primary IDE channel. In my BIOS it says that the HD is set to run at UDMA5, but when i go to device manager in WinXP, it says that my HD is only running at UDMA2. On a side note, both of my optical drives are set to run at UDMA2 in BIOS, but WinXP says theyre running in PIO mode Any suggestions on how to fix this  ?

if winxp wont allow u to change it.. u might have to re-install xp.

winxp drops down udma mode when critical errors happen..

Do you have all of the proper Intel mobo drivers installed?

Have you check the IDE cable?

Is the hard drive cable UDMA-5?

Remove the primary IDE controller from the Device Manager and reboot. It'll fix it, I promise (why? because it happened to my CD burner)
