Well I replaced my 20gig QuantumFireball with a 40gig maxtor a few years ago. Two rma's later, I put the Fireball back in as a slave to get ready for the third rma, when it happens. Getting that maxtor was a big mistake, should have went with WD or Seagate and all that data would never have been lost. And the machine never left the desk, no bumps or anything like that.

    But thats just my experience.

Next rma, I will sell it unopened and get a real HD.

either you've got some bad luck or I'm just lucky. I've got 2 of those drives in 2 sperate sytems that I've had for a couple years now and they have been running perfeclty the whole time

They both have been in every computer I manage at one time or another, formatted numerous times...blah blah blah... basically anything you can do to a HDD

the only HDD I have ever had trouble with is an old Seagate Baracuda which is doomed to die for good soon... I refuse to put anything important/valuable on it, in fact I only use it to experiemnt with OS's like linux
I've gone too far and need to move on!

Maxtor HDD's have a bad habit of dyin' when the PCI bus is overclocked.
