    the magnet will work, but it can also damage your drive...but if the FBI comes knocking on your door it will work just fine =)

    Yeah, as minibubba said the magnet will work very well it'll definitely get rid of ur data, but the company might not send u a replacement drive because that will almost certainly cause permanent damage :bounce:

    thats exactly right.
    it would be considered abuse, and not covered.

    um to spoil every ones fun here you can get about 90% of the data of any drive that has been formatted, magnet treated, any other bright things you can think of. the only way to make sure that its gone is to take a drill and drill holes in it you cant recover that.

    We're not talking about just formatting here, overwrtting data multiple times will make the original data unrecoverable, which is what most of the previuosly mentioned software does....overwrittes the entire drive with 1, 0, or a pattern of both, multiple times (up to 99 times with some of them)

    I'd love to see someone retrive the data off a hdd that has been treated in such a manner.

    yes even that is still recoverable let me tell you this unless you physically destroy the drive surface you can still recover some of it
