    Default Lga 775

I am most likely going to add a much larger heatsink and fan for my processor. If a heatsink/fan combo say it is for socket lga 775 does this mean that it mounts to my board with the 4 pins/plastic screw type things that came with the stock fan?
2 of the screw pins don't hold tight from the stock fan and since this is an awesome place of help so far...I might as well support thermaltake while I am here....

It depends on what heatsink you go for. Smaller replacements use the push down pin mounting like the stock 775 heatsink. Big tower types require more clamp pressure and are mounted using 2 metal plates which will require motherboard removal.

Different coolers have different way of being mounted, however aftermarket coolers are of a much higher quality so pins wont snap off or bend or break. Some of the larger (heavier) coolers have a backplate that needs to be placed on the back of the motherboard, and then the cooler screws all the way through the motherboard and to the backplate. This is a backplate http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/2198/img6480t.jpg

now that is a substantial backplate!
I will take measurements tonight and see hwat cooler will fit my system best. If you have a recommendation for a specific heatsink/fan combo with backplate.......I have a
Sonata II case. Hard drives are not in the way. My only concerns would be blocking the PSU fan and also hitting the gigabyte heatsink that are on the north and southbridge.
Thanks for you help above though!
