Actually, yes it is....the NV40 will be the performance mainstream GPU as the 5600 is now, and the NV45 will be the enthusiast high end GPU as the 5900 is currently.

There will also be NV41, NV42, and NV43 GPUs as well.

    This is off topic though.

    Oh BTW........R400 has been cancelled.

    FX5900 - 3DMark2001 [20,566] - 3DMark2003 [7,281] - Aquamark3 [56,694]

    1. Sorry but you've lost me with the R400 reference.
    2. We're talking about the begining of next year at which time the NV40 will be Nvidia's highend card.

    NV35 current Nvidia highend card
    NV38 replaces NV35 as Nvidia's highend card Q4 2003
    NV40 replaces NV38 as Nvidia's highend card Q1 2004
    NV45 replaces NV40 as Nvidia's highend card Q4 2004

JSR: The R420-Loki is due early next year, late Q1, early Q2, it's really hard to tell. Like the NV40 it has a bridge and will be available as either a AGP 8X or PCI Express 16X card.

ATI highend GPU release cycles (approx 6 months between each release)

    Original 12 month cycle
    R300 (new core) - R350 (updated core) - R400 (new core) - R450 (updated).

    Current 18 month cycle
    R300 (new core) - R350 (updated core) - R360 (updated core) - R420 Loki (new core).

This revised cycle saves ATI approximately $100m every three years. I believe it is only a matter of time before Nvidia adopts a similar strategy.

    1. Fair enough you can believe them but they're wrong, it would be interesting to read the original German article.
    2. I know the R400's cancelled, that happened months ago when ATI revised their release schedule, I just wondered why you were making reference to it now?

regardles of all of the spewage, ati's new core will be the r420, and nvidia's the nv40, which i will reiterate, will be in sample form this xmas as ati's sells the sh#$%t out of the 9800xt/hl2 combo........regardless of the hl2 bait, one does wonder if it isn't prudent to wait for one of these new cores...........and, soul, if you want to crank up a 9700 to meet that end, no skin off mine.........i'm just itchin' to do the whole enchilada w/ dual channel amd64/ someone's next gen core.........that, i believe, will hold me in good stead, for awhile :shoot3:
