Earlier the ASUS website had some information on its new ATI graphics card range, which has subsequently been removed. Interestingly ASUS is only offering a 256MB version of the Radeon 9800 XT. Which raises the question, will a 128MB version of the 9800 XT even be produced? If not, then it would seem that 256MBs of memory has/will become the norm for high-end video cards.

ZEROKOOL: Hopefully I'll get my XT within the next 30 days. As I haven't seen an undressed (fanless) 9800 XT I can't really answer your waterblock question, but I'll keep it mind for the future. Thanks for the compliment, I always try to do my best.

JSR: It was just a thought really, it's certainly not a fact. Indeed some sites are already quoting $399 for the XT 128MB and $499 for the XT 256MB. It's just that up to now I've only seen details and pictures of a 256MB version. Either way we will know for sure on the 30th when the NDA is lifted and the product is finally launched.

the 9800pro 128 does not vary much in performance from the 256 and therefore most people opt for the 128 variant yet we'll see with xt

People get the 128 because its cheaper and overclocks better, making it faster.

ASUS is making both Nvidia and ATI cards now?

Soulburner: Both ASUS and MSI (OEM only) manufacture ATI cards now and GigaByte has started making Nvidia cards.

It's only in very high res gaming you'll benefit from having that amount of memory.
At 16x12 32Bit it do make a difference.
