Maybe there was something wrong with your card. I have tried this game on a few different cards. An mx440 64mb(really bit badly), msi ti4200 64mb(could have used a bit of oc, the owner is a wimp), radeon 9000 non pro 64mb(could not work fluidly on high gfx settings, no oc, locked), radeon 9000pro 64mb(worked quite smooth @300/300), radeon 9000pro 128mb(worked much better than the 64mb r9000 or ti4200 @only 285/285). Overall, I believe the amount of memory played a big role in performance. Just like in 3d '03, this is the type of game that dips into the other 64mb of mem. Especially when lots of bad guys and explosions are on screen.
At the moment, after a format, my ti is @stock speeds and it is totally playable and smooth. Before the new hd, halo was a bit buggy, but so were other things. How much mem did your old card have?

That wasn't a msi card was it? The guy with the msi ti4200 64mb 4x agp has the same mobo as you and an xp2100. He swaped that card to another machine recently due to missing dll and vxd files when using the same asus mobo. He got both the board and card when just when 8x came out, and it always had wierd jumpy gfx problems when playing ultra high res games.(thats why I felt the urge to oc) I still think he did not use proper mobo chipset drivers and relied on xp to have them like most default wimps do)(try that with a k7s5a pro, lol). I am not assuming you had improper drivers as well. But were also talking about someone who downgraded to a fx5600(thinking it was an upgrade) to replace that ti4200.
Just to be sure, I will test the game on his other rig, P4 2.0 with the old ti4200. And also retest it on his asus board with new fx5600. I will post back with my observations.

Worked good for counter-strike lol. Since I quit that I decided to go buy halo, and to my suprise it was a dx9 game and my card wasn't compatible. So I was thinking bout buying the 9800XT came here asked, asked around some more, then decided I should just get a 9800pro
Uh I run Halo on my Ti4400 system, runs fine.

Run the updater to patch the game. I am using 52.16 drivers.

Isn't that memory speed wrong? I thought the XT was like 730Mhz
