It wasn't that much actually - 85 GB Pounds which is only 27 more than the card I've had but he wouldn't accept that I was specifically after a ti4200 because I had listened to people who knew their stuff, done my research on it and deducted that it was the very best in my price range.

Besides, *If* I'd agreed to take one off his hands he would've cajoled me into taking a new motherboard which supports 8xAGP and lord knows what else until I'd have virtually ended up owning a new machine.

That's how he got me with my last machine and I'm not falling for it again

The thing is that 8x AGP video cards are also 4x AGP compatible so if ya did buy the other there would've been no need to replace ya mobo but the A280 LE TD MyViVo is also an 8x AGP card (there's very little in performance difference between 4x and 8x). Sounds like he was tryin' to take ya for a long ride.

Exactly why I chose to ignore him and carry on with my selection anyway Wiggo - I'm onto his game now. His idea of marketing stinks quite frankly.

Anyway, here's a good one for ya.

I've just installed my new card and it's showing up in the Device Manager as a ti4800 SE.

Is that a good or bad thing do ya reckon?

Now I wonder why that is as a Ti4800SE is a 8x AGP Ti4400 but here's how mine shows up. :?:

What are the speeds for your new card? If they are 275/550 then you got a ti4800se by accident and you are way ahead of the game.:thumb:

Spot on Maximus - 275/550 are indeed the speeds recorded on the Winfox overclocking utility.

Does this mean I have gained or lost out then in your opinion?

Also because I've now been bamboozled by a completely different model of gfx card, what sort of levels can I humanely overclock the beast to?

It's the same as what I got except mine is an asus vivo. Look at my sig for speeds, and I am not even close to maxing it. This card cost $250cdn compared to a ti4200 for $180cdn. You got a superb deal. The only difference between these cards is the speeds, ti4200 is usually 250/500.

That's made me feel a whole lot better, thanks Maximus.

I had a feeling it would be extremely overclockable when I saw the dual fan set-up and the enormous heatsink over the processor.

It turns out to be the Leadtek A280 TD MyViVo rather than the A280 LE TD MyViVo which it was advertised (and eventually given away, sorry, sold :thumb: ) as.

Anyway, as far as the title of the thread is concerned I'm now pretty darned certain I have done the right thing ;).

I forgot to mention those prices were 4 months ago. You will be quite happy now. I play all the newest games with all settings on highest and the framerates are nice. That 256mb fx5600(for$270cdn) was one of my choices as well, good thing I tested one compared to a ti4200 before making my decision(and wiggo was a big help). Let me know if you have a 2x/4x problem(happens with via chipsets) and I will show you how to fix it.

Earlier this year I went and bought a GF4 MX440 dual monitor capable for a cheap project box but on openin' the box I found a GF4 Ti4200. Don't it just make ya feel good when ya get more than ya paid for? :devil win
