    Hi all,

I have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb and i love high resolution with as much eye candy as possible

Is it worth upgrading to a better graphics card just yet? IS something like the Asus V9570TD GeForce FX 5700 256MB @ 99.99 an improvment over what i already have?

Or would i need something like the over priced 9800XT to get a signficant gain?:?:

    Cheers Tweekers

    NO.

The Asus V9570TD (FX5700) would be a big step backwards and I don't think even an FX5700U would get to close. The FX5900 would be more comparable with what ya have. The FX5900U, FX5950U and R9800P/XT would be ya logical steps up from ya current card. Personally I'd stick with what ya have.

To get better performance than you currently have you will need to look at either the 9800 Pro or XT series boards or the nVidia based 5950 series boards. Considering their price, they won't give you THAT much improvement unless you're just looking for higher benchmark scores.

Your 9700 Pro already handles DirectX 9 functions and should serve you well yet for some time.

By the time games come along that'll fully exploit that amount of memory then it's possible ya'll be lookin' at a system upgrade anyway and the AGP bus would've be replaced by the PCI Express bus.

So really, is there much difference between the 9700 pro and the 9800 pro? Apart from a small increase in core frequency?
