Ok I just bought a card off ebay, i think it s a 9800se. The guy selling it posted rivatuner info saying it had 8x1 rendering pipelines but this is a saphire 9800 and they only have 4x1 on the se so im not sure. Here is the board info:

    s/n:630324028136
    p/n:102A0751401 000001

    Radeon 9800 128mb

Thats what is says on the sticker ont he back of the card. Another thing the card is running really hot , like i tried running 3dmark03 and id didnt even make it thourhg the test b4 vpu recovery kicked in. Please help identify the card and the problem!

    Thanks
    Dan

    9800se are very bad cards.

    How much did you pay?

And if you want us to check it out and tell you which card you got for sure than give us a link to the auction.
If the stuff in glow sticks is truly toxic then why do they make so many flavors?

there are 9800se that are 9800 with you can enable 4 more pipelines. You might have the 256bit verion but you have to see for sure. I know the 9800se with the L shaped memory config are the 256bit verions, anyway check here for more info http://softmod.ocfaq.com/faq.php

One thing, buying on ebay for video cards is stupid because they can softmod the card to something better and charge more. OR you dont get the right info on the card your buying. Also, 9800se are 9800 chips that do not function correctly while 8 pipelines are unable, so thus used for budget card. Also i believe that the L shape configuration is used for 9800se and 9800 cards. But does not mean 256 bit is enable.

I believe ATI changed the way the se's are made so you can't do that anymore. I may be wrong. Though that article is kinda old, it quotes driver version 3.4 when 4.3 just came out. Seems like it might be over a year old.

Again, I suggest you post a link so we can check it out for you.

yeah i got screwed, not only is it a crappy se, it wont even stay stable enough to make it through one 3dmakr run. I paid $170 for this piece of ****, yeah i know ebay blah blah. I paid with paypal so ill prolly get my cash back but still its a pita! Good thing is this guy admitted to me he had 2 accounts one for selling and one for bidding up his auctions. I told him unless he refunds me ill expose him to ebay (this is a big violation of ebay policy). SO that way both his names will get banned from ebay so he doesnt screw other people. Obviously im reporting him either way.
