Hi all, I need to start thinking about a new vid card for my second RiG. I'm considering a Albatron 5900xt. My Q, is will it be as good as my 5700u? Or better? hwo will perform once OC'd? Thx for input in advance:)
    Main RiG:
    CPU: Athlon 64 3200+@2.17
    Mobo:Asus KT8V deluxe
    Ram:1Gig Corasair XMS PC-3200
    AGP: eVga GeForce 6800
    Case:Antec SLB
    HDD:Maxtor 80Gig 8mb
    PSU:Antec TRUE380

I'd stick with the 5700 Ultra, it's way faster than the 5900XT.

The average 5700 Ultra runs at 450MHz core and 900MHz memory.

The average 5900XT runs at 390MHz core and 700MHz memory.

So as you can see, the 5700Ultra is WAY better.

its not just about clock speeds its about architecture of the card. the 5900series is 256bit the 5700 series is only 128bit. the 5900xt should be faster than the 5700 ultra even though the 5700 clock speeds are higher

Well, whatever the case may be. The XT's, from what i've seen, are garbage.

and the ability to overclock to 5950 speeds with decent cooling

the 5900xt is clearly faster (don't pay attention to the guy talking about the clock speeds he hasn't done his homework) than the 5700 but it probably isn't worth the money for the upgrade, wait a while until you really need an upgrade... though if you could get 5950 clock speeds it might be worth considering but i wouldn't count on this

the xt is so good that it being discontenued by nvidia (they don't want another ti 4200 like product)

Do i need to put a slapping to someone...seriously...clock speed matters...but when it comes down to 256 bit and 128 bit..there has to be a huge advantage in clock speed for a 128 bit card over a 256...so soyoman..get out of your small world..

Btw..you can try the 5900 LX version from Leadtek and flash it to a 5950..i dont know how effective that can be..but i seen people done it with 3dmark improvements.

Yes clock speed matters...Put so does Architect, You can not tell me a lets say Athlon XP 2500 is going to be better then a AMD 64 2.2 G.
If you thank so you are a FOOL.

I just bought a 5900xt and is unbelievable. You can also oc it up to the 5900 ultra's speed. As long as its got decent cooling. so it BLOWS away any 5700 Ultra.(PERIOD!)

    Thank you(bowing)
