Hey guys, I come to you yet again for hardware help.

Here's the story: Back in January I bought this built by ATI RADEON 9600 XT for 200 bucks, thought it was an awesome deal, thought it was a great card. But now that I look at benchmarks, the Radeon 9800 really spanks it. The main thing I'm worried about is next-gen games as well as some advanced current ones, like: Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Far Cry, etc...

So my main question is: will my Radeon 9600XT cut it for these games? Or is it just going to run them at a mediocre speed? I JUST bought this card, and even though I'm overclocking it, it doesn't seem to give me the performance I want. What card would you guys reccomend? I don't want to spend much over 300, but may go over it a bit. I would LOVE suggestions/help/tips...i'm in a state of dismay right now over it. Maybe I should sell my current card NOW, while the prices are high, and pick up a better one?

One more thing: Will more vid card memory really help performance in next-gen games? Thanks a lot in advance!!

it should be fine for runnin the new games.
unless you run 1600x1200 with all settings on max.

From the price you listed I suppose that your in Aus, if so then for $200.00 and back in January you would have received a card with the slower 3.3nS memory, in which case if you sold it you would be lucky to get about 1/2 to 2/3rds of what you paid.

It's rather hard, almost impossible to say what HL2 will play on as I only know of one person ( PC Power Play ) outside the developers that have played it, and they didn't state what card was installed on the system.

For around $330.00 to $350.00 you will be able to get a 9800Pro.

That sounds about right for a retail store.

For right now, I'd sit tight with that card. Yes, the 9800XT/Pro is faster, but you're going to see the most benefits if you play at high resolutions with the eye candy set to the max. It's your money, but with Doom III and HL2 still not out yet, you have no idea how it'll play on that card.
