Didn't you mention the RAM was PC3200 in another thread? Unless it has poor timings, just buy another stick of the exact same RAM. A full GB of RAM would certainly help, but the money would be better spent elsewhere...

The card is fine. It's not bad for it's price (we can get cheaper over here though). However, getting a (256-bit) 9800 Pro would be better. Instead of getting that GB of RAM, just get another stick of 256MB (like I said) and a 9800 Pro.

Didn't they say in the other thread that you motherboard doesn't have two memory controlers (so you can't have dual channel RAM)?

Getting 2GB of RAM would be overkill. One GB, dual-channel or not, is probably more than you would ever use. A GB (2x512MB) of PC3500 would probably be the best choice.

A 256MB card is also overkill. There are some benefits to having a 256MB card. But like I said, get a 9800 Pro, not a 9600XT. You can flash a 9800 Pro to a 9800XT, if you want.

If it's true that you motherboard doesn't support dual channel, than getting a new one (with a newer chipset, of course) would certainly help things a bit. It would kind of be a waste of money, but if money isn't an issue...

If money isn't an issue, there is so such thing as overkill.

True, but it would be smarter to get a new board and processor if you just want to waste money and get a faster machine.

His CPU is fine, the only thing he really needs to have a killer system is a new mobo, RAM and a new Video card.

A GB of RAM is fine too... No reason to waste money on a second GB. It's overkill. If he just wants to throw money at it, there are much better CPUs and GPUs available. I'd rather have an X800 Pro and a GB of RAM than a 9800 Pro and 2GBs of RAM. :2cents:

But the point I was making about the CPU was that if he really wants to spend any amount of money on it (which I doubt), getting a socket 939 A64 would provide much better performance (in 95% of all applications, anyway).
